Gunung Nuang – First Hiking

Gunung Nuang (Mount Nuang)

8 November 2007

I thought hiking is fun until I hiked this mount. It’s very tough and exhausted. This challenging Gunung Nuang, which is located in Malaysia with the height of 1493 meter. Its peak marks the meeting point of three Malaysian states; Negeri Sembilan, Pahang dan Selangor. The mountain itself is the highest point in Selangor and part of the Titiwangsa Mountains. Probably I have to get into this first before I expect what is going soon in Kota Kinabalu.

There are few hiking routes to the peak which two of them start in Selangor; one at Kuala Pangsoon in Hulu Langat and another at Kampung Kemensah in Gombak. The third path originates from Bukit Tinggi in Bentong, Pahang.

Entrance fee is RM1 only and there are plenty of car park available there. The trail above is where I start walking. It’s well known as “Never Ending Road”. The road takes about 70 minutes to walk.

This is the starting point of hiking. The waterfall can be seen here. Campsite can be make here but the place look a rubbish site already. This is the end of Never Ending Road, just cross a small stream and cross the dam, I reached the campsite.

In the beginning, the route is okay, just to be cautious with the stone and also the tree branches. We need to cross the stream in dangerous way, thanks to team work, we managed to cross.

Crossing the stream like above is always challenging if you don’t want to get wet. I rather get into water and cross happily. Overall, none of my clothes are dry when I completed this hiking.

As I continue up, the trail has taken a sharp rise and I’m on red clay. Red clay is fine when dry, but that day, it wasn’t dry because it rain in the morning. Damn. So slippery. The part of the trail took 3-4 hours.

I don’t manage to climb to the summit due to tiredness. The unfortunate thing is I had to go down on the same route which I climb up. Damn! It’s a double effort to go down as to go up. Due to the wet red clay, I have fallen down so many times and it just getting my clothes dirty.

Even though yet to up to summit, but I’m sure I can do it. It has push my limit further in my stamina and I glad I have participate with my 3 friends above. Will try again next time and look forward to KK also this year.
