Weekend hiking has become my daily routine since I wanted to keep my stamina on-going. This week is kinda different due to my colleagues decided to join me as I always talk about my weekend activity. That’s FRIM (Forest Research Institute Malaysia).
Waterfall @ FRIM
In year 2008, I visited FRIM for more than 10 times. Compare to 2 years ago which is my first time to FRIM, we were bring around by a guide. The place is so strange to me that time. But not nowadays. It’s my routine outing during the weekend.
Carpark is FREE at outside the entrance. If want to drive into FRIM, you need to pay RM5 per car (included driver) and RM1 per person as entrance fees.
Since all my colleagues never been here, I had become a guide to them. It’s fun bringing them to this relaxation place.
Me, Teh, Mun Kit, Simon, Michelle and Lily had joined me. It’s rather easy for some of us as it’s merely took an hour to complete it. Teh is my team member during Eco-Challenge 3 months ago. He is tough in physical stamina, and such hiking look easy for him. In fact, he is looking for a more challenging place. Ermm.
You know what is the purpose for this outing? Simon wanted to train on the stamina before going to Taman Negara (National Park) in this coming March. Not bad since I manage to find more hiking kakis at this moment.

Taman Rimba Ampang

It’s located far away at the end of Jln Ampang. In fact, if you drive until the end of Jln Ampang, you will discover the road name change to Jalan Bukit Belacan. As long as the road is connected, drive until you see this entrance.
Welcome to Taman Rimba Ampang. It’s really an escape to the city next door. Not much can expected. Parking fees is RM2 and entrance fee is RM1 per person.
Even the road is paved, public vehicle is not allow to enter. Probably to keep the air fresh from carbon monoxide.
The water stream flow nicely. It’s real and no doubt as Hulu Langat forest is popular with beautiful scenic.
Taking off your shoes and walk on the water give a cold walk. Even with sitting nearby also feel the comfort.
If you’re ready to dip onto water, be prepare with your clothes to change.
I found nothing can be tell here except the scenic view of nature rocky river. Visitors who visit for just running or jogging don’t even bother with the scenic.
Kids and teenagers are enjoying themselves dipping in the cold pool. Some even perform stunt to outperform their buddies.
Just hang around and enjoy the old forest.
I came at 8am and it’s still early and quiet until 10am, peoples started coming with picnic stuffs. It’s perfect place for picnic with such a nice landscaped grounds.
In conclusion, Ampang Rimba Park is perfect for bird lover, jogger and picnicker.
It was a kind of challenges that required to complete all activities like jungle trekking, hill-hiking, running, river-crossing, mud-crossing and etc, total of 14km.
Genting Trailblazer 2008 @ Awana Genting Highlands

Fees: Early bird (RM318) entitled with Genting Trailblazer 2008 Room Package (Double Deluxe).
Dining Venue: Rajawali Restaurant, Awana Genting (2 pax).
Both of us are first timer. We need to check-in by 3pm a day before and check-out at 12pm on the next day.
Check-in Day (1-Nov-2008)
Our preparation has started as early at 8am. We went to Tesco for our groceries and junk food. Petrol tank filled up and tyre pressure checked. At 2pm, we left to Genting. It’s pretty easy to locate Awana although I never been there before.
Upon reaching, we went straight to check-in as it’s about 3pm already. Not many peoples were there, but peoples are queuing up in the counter increase suddenly.
As show above, participant need to proceed to Kenari Room for registration.
You have to take your pips first. Then, show your pips to another table to get your room keys, proceed with voucher collection, goodies bag and free gifts.
It’s look like thousand goodies bag give away.
After collecting my goodies bags and room keys, I straight away go up to check-in my room. Whoops…2 queen size beds which I never expect to be…haha.
I thought of inviting friends to occupy the room which is suppose to fit 4 persons. It’s worth more than the price that we paid.
And yea, I started to feel I’m going for holiday more than the Trailblazer.

It’s a holiday card which has a face value of RM50 in it and it can be used in any shops or stalls in Genting Highlands. A key chain string and two dinner voucher in the picture.
It’s relatively fun when everything are in pair…just for illustration. The bread, milo 3-in-1 and tiger biscuit are NOT included.
There was a briefing at 4pm for an hour. We went back to room to get ourselves prepare for the dinner at 7pm. Again, it’s like holiday rather than anything else.
I roamed around the resort for pictures. At 7pm, the weather was rather stormy and I was expected tough route by tomorrow. We were served with buffet dinner at Rajawali Restaurant.
Event Day (2-Nov-2008)
The next morning … a breezy morning. Located at football field as where the starting point is. We missed the warm up session by Fitness First.
Peoples start to gather at the starting point.
When the run flagged off, it’s like mad cow running…haha. The first course involve in running around the resort while the subsequent part will be jungle challenge.
The surrounding was wet and slippery due to stormy weather yesterday. My shoe grip is quite okay until it was covered by mud. Luckily both of us wear Cap Gajah rubber shoes. It’s cheap and reliable.
One of the first slope that required teamwork…not tough and people still going easy.
It was not a problem still. Peoples still take it easy. But my legs start shaking due to running few kilometers.
We had to run together and marshal will take our number on some corner to ensure that we’re not separating from far. “Do take care your partner, don’t leave it behind“, told by the organizer in joking manners before the event start.
Hiking like above required a lot of energy and a good grip too. The ropes are provided.
From this onwards, we cross all uphill and I regretted not to have my GLOVES. It’s very useful to grip on the slippery objects.
When we reached a small river, I quickly wash my shoe from mud. The line was considerably long there.
I was lucky to have waterproof camera with me during the challenge. During the course of the race, I manage to snap around … while many of them were so focus. Haha.
The upward climbing is so tough, at least never had before in my life.
Dedicated route is not a mandatory. You can use other road but have to put extra careful. It was not created purposely. Obviously this took up more time and energy. Salute for those do deer jumping from one to another.
It was so lucky that both of us never into any bad incident. We were careful and help each other to complete a task. I helped others out across some terrain and obstacles.
At this point, my energy has gone burst. Marshall said that it’s going to reach end point. A big boost anyway. We’re reaching the water station soon.
This is where the series of obstacles start. Jump into the mud water, climb up and continue it for three times.
Climb up and jump into muddy water and walk through the end. Dare you to jump.
It’s not that easy to walk through the mud water. The mud sucks every of your steps. It covered your shoes and made you difficult to make next step. Obviously they wanted you to swim instead of walk.
Reach the end point in 4 hours … hurray! Awarded with completion medal from organizer.
We went to wash up ourselves first at open air washroom. A booth is giving out free meehoon, bananas, boiled eggs and sandwich and it’s only food stall that still distributing. MILO drink had finished and packing their way already.
At 1.30pm, we quickly went to pack our things to check out. Even though it’s rush, I’m proud the way we completed it and definitely will be more prepare next time.
The experience that I had is really boost myself physically. In fact, I’ll be back again next year.
Happy 2009. Welcome to the first day of the year. First post here. A hope, a future, a plan and an achievement. I foresee myself will continue to put effort in career, health, relationship and traveling.
My last year resolution will be continue this year. In some aspect, I will do to bring up my level and continue to pursue for result. So, you will see some “Advance” resolution here.
Year 2009 Happening
- Continue to put effort in love relationship
- Continue to communicate well with various level of people
- Continue to participate as many as possible sport events
- Start to invest into higher yield return saving
- Continue to put higher quality of lifestyle
- Continue to excel in career planning in term of project involvement
- Continue my crazy planned trips all over my calendar.
Simple right? Yes, it does simple but then its require a lot of thought and time to make it success. Okay, lets elaborate here.
- In Year 2008, I met a girl that loves me so much and so do I. To further on, I’m aiming high on this relationship and will make myself towards a family planning in 2 years time.
- In Year 2008, I manage to upgrade myself in term of my thought and how I communicate with people. I learn in my support role. I hope to extend it in project management area which is the key of successful business.
- In Year 2008, I couldn’t believe I participate various physical challenges that required me to complete it within 15km. I would continue to pursue such event as many as possible to bring up myself in stamina. I hope to maintain my fit body. I’d to lose 4 more kgs to get an ideal body. I lost from 87kg to 84kg this year.
- In Year 2008, managing debt is driving me nuts. Last year debt is still hanging around and hardly reduce. Thanks for my recent purchases of big stuffs. My financial status remain as per last year. So, my aim next year is to reduce into zero debt and reduce my credit card collection. Even though I manage to invest in Amanah Saham, however, it’s still doesn’t reflect my debt enough. Hopefully I could start my investment plan by next year.
- In Year 2008, I didn’t improve much of my quality life. I hope to make something different this year. Lets see.
- In Year 2008, I finally expose into project as members. As the chances to get into project more higher, I’d to prepare myself before hand. I’ll start my studies in MBA next year. Estimated completion time is 3 years.I do not deny the possibility of getting new job if opportunities come.
- In Year 2008, I had slow down in my traveling. However, I’ll buck up and again planned all over my calendar with many trips within Malaysia.

KL in the countdown mode. Getting ready…
I was like errr…not doing countdown for few years already. As this year is going to be different, I went up to Nga Nga hill nearby my house. It was less than 3km and I could take a breathtaking view from uphill.
Things are going to be weird when the place start to jam and seems like going no where, if I settled down in road side and walk up instead. It become unmovable and people start counting in their own vehicle. Darn no mood right?
I just walk till I get a good view to KL. Took my Olympus and snap pictures. Voila! 10..9..8..7..6..5..4..3..2..1 Woohoo!

Shaking….everybody shaking, the earth shaking, so do I. Haha. It lasted for 5-10 minutes. Vehicles started to jam, fedup man…what to do? Reach home at 12.45am. Ok la.
